OSCE builds capacity of Tajik civil society in preventing and fighting corruption

DUSHANBE, 17 June 2014 – A two-day training course organized by the OSCE Office in Tajikistan on international NGONGO
non-governmental organization Transparency International’s (TI) Integrity Standards and the role of the civil society in fighting corruption concluded today in Dushanbe.

The course involved specialists on TI Integrity Standards and civil society initiatives from TI’s Secretariat in Berlin and its Chapter in Russia. They outlined TI’s accountability, transparency and integrity principles for non-governmental organizations and provided participants with practical guidance on civil society’s role in anti-corruption policy reforms.

Some 27 participants from civil society based in Dushanbe and Tajikistan’s regions learnt about practical examples of civic initiatives and mechanisms to fight corruption. They also received training on how to become a TI country chapter and how to structure the internal governance of their organizations and initiatives in line with TI’s requirements.

Ambassador Markus Mueller, the Head of the OSCE Office in Tajikistan, noted the high -level of engagement of participants at the workshop and welcomed their willingness to co-operate in strengthening civil society’s capacities in preventing and fighting corruption.
