The European Union and the OSCE concluded a “Strengthening Medical Capacities” course for Tajikistan’s Border Troops

With the financial support of the European Union (EU) the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe Programme Office in Dushanbe (OSCE POiD) delivered a “Strengthening Medical Capacities” course from 14 July to 8 August 2025. Thirty  participants (17 women and 13 men) took part in this intensive training at the  Tajikistan’s Border Troops Hospital in Khujand, Sughd Region.

The course focused on field medicine, with topics including trauma care, hygiene and infectious diseases, casualty evacuation, climatic injuries, and post-traumatic stress disorder. These modules aimed to equip officers with practical, life-saving skills tailored to the operational realities of border service. The course is part of the third phase of the EU-funded project “Stabilization of the Southern Border Region of Tajikistan with Afghanistan” which has delivered over €7.8 million worth of support to date.

A separate session with UNHCR partners and UNICEF brought in humanitarian and child protection perspectives, strengthening inter-agency co-operation in emergency and field conditions.

The EU and the OSCE are committed to enhancing the operational readiness and resilience of Tajikistan’s Border Troops.
