Twelve officials from Tajikistan’s national working group for the development of a national ecological code travelled to Astana from 22 to 29 July 2018 to familiarize themselves with Kazakhstan’s experience in creating laws that promote a healthy environment, a green economy, environmental security and sustainable socio-economic development. The study visit was organized and sponsored by the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe.

The visitors had the opportunity to exchange experiences, best practices and lessons learned with government officials, civil society representatives and experts who worked on Kazakhstan’s ecological code. They also visited project sites and institutions where they could see how Kazakhstan implements its ecological code and promotes a green economy, energy efficiency and environmental security.

Tajikistan has plans to codify its environmental legislation to address gaps and conflicts within existing laws and bring them into alignment with international standards.
