OSCE-supported training course on mentorship principles for women leaders concludes in Dushanbe

A two-day training course on mentorship principles for women leaders, organized by the OSCE Office in Tajikistan, concluded in Dushanbe on 23 June 2017.

The course brought together some 25 young men, women and civil society members who gained additional knowledge and skills to better understand and support the leadership potential for women and girls through peer-to-peer mentorship.

“Young people and the grass root level activists for gender equality are the voices of the society whose support for advancing women in public and political life in every country is very important,” said Vesna Ivanovikj-Castarede, Gender and Anti-Trafficking Officer at the OSCE Office in Tajikistan, who delivered the course. “Only through understanding what obstacles women and girls face in different spheres of life can sustainable support be provided for the rightful advancement of women in leadership positions.”

The programme of the training course comprised of presentations, role plays, discussions on various topics such as gender stereotypes, masculinity, and violence against women, and the different roles that women play in public and political life.

“The OSCE is dedicated to supporting its participating States in implementing their commitments for empowering women and girls to reach their full potential for the benefit of the society,” said Scott Kearin, Head of the OSCE Office’s Human Dimension Department.
