The OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe, in co-operation with the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan (MEDT), organized a national roundtable on “Green Economy Development in the Republic of Tajikistan” to advance dialogue on implementing the country’s Green Economy Development Strategy for 2023-2037.
The roundtable fostered collaboration among government institutions, the private sector, academia and environmental stakeholders, enabling them to share progress, address implementation challenges and identify opportunities to advance Tajikistan’s green economy transition.
Presentations during the roundtable covered a broad range of topics. MEDT presented progress in implementing the Strategy and the national Taxonomy, while the OSCE outlined its joint activities in support of the country’s green economy agenda. The National Bank of Tajikistan spoke on the development of green financing in the banking system, while LLC “Green Technologies,” a private company, gave a presentation on how the quality of technology shapes the economics of solar energy projects. The International University of Tourism and Entrepreneurship explored the links between climate change, labour markets and food security in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals. The Dushanbe Aarhus Centre, operating under the Committee for Environmental Protection, highlighted the role of Aarhus Centres in supporting the transition to a green economy.
By facilitating exchanges across sectors, the roundtable helped connect policy priorities with practical considerations, including access to green finance, renewable energy technologies and the social and economic implications of climate change. The discussions also highlighted areas where continued co-operation among national institutions and international partners can support implementation of the Strategy and its Action Plan.
The event forms part of the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe’s efforts to support Tajikistan in implementing environmental legislation and policies, promoting co-operation and advancing sustainable, resource-efficient development
