OSCE-supported summer camp empowers young men to promote gender equality and human rights in Tajikistan

From 30 June to 3 July 2026, the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe, in partnership with the Human Rights Commissioner in the Republic of Tajikistan, supported a Summer Camp for Young Men on Gender Equality in Guliston, Sughd Region, bringing together 22 young participants from across the country.

The four-day summer school aimed to strengthen participants’ knowledge of and skills in gender equality and non-discrimination, human rights, leadership, equal political participation, and peace and security. The camp also provided a platform for open dialogue on the role of men in addressing harmful social norms, challenging gender stereotypes, and promoting equal opportunities for all members of society.

Through interactive sessions, discussions, and practical exercises, participants explored innovative approaches to engaging men and boys in advancing gender equality and fostering greater respect for fundamental freedoms and human rights. The programme encouraged young men to become active advocates for inclusion, tolerance, and positive social change within their communities.

“Now in its fourth year with the support of the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe, this summer school is primarily aimed at increasing young people’s legal awareness and strengthening tolerance and peace among future generations. In this regard, we highly value its role in educating and promoting human rights,” said Suhayli Qodiri, Co-ordinator of the Human Rights Education Programme at the Office of the Human Rights Commissioner in the Republic of Tajikistan. 

Participants highlighted the value of the experience in broadening their perspectives and connecting with peers from different backgrounds.

Sharing his impressions of the summer camp, participant Jahongir Kurbonzoda said: “The training was very interesting and engaging. I gained a great deal of useful information, acquired new knowledge, and met wonderful people. The atmosphere was open, friendly, and welcoming, making this a truly positive experience.”

The summer camp forms part of the OSCE’s ongoing efforts to support youth engagement, promote human rights education, and encourage the active participation of young people in building inclusive, peaceful, and resilient societies.
