From 27 October to 7 November 2025, the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe conducted a two-week analytical training course for mid-rank officers of Tajikistan’s Border Troops deployed in the Sughd region.

Held at a regional training centre in Khujand, the course equipped twenty officers from analytical units with advanced competencies essential for modern border management. Delivered by experienced international and local experts, the training covered several key areas. It focused on strategic and tactical intelligence analysis to counter threats such as smuggling and organized crime, and introduced modern data collection and processing techniques that make use of specialized analytical tools. The programme also addressed risk analysis and threat assessment in sensitive border areas, along with methods for improving information sharing and reporting to strengthen inter-agency co-ordination.

Amid evolving security challenges, including transnational organized crime, illicit drug trafficking and cyber threats, the ability to rapidly and accurately analyse intelligence is increasingly critical. The course provided practical skills directly applicable to the officers’ daily duties and strengthened their capacity to respond effectively to emerging threats.

This initiative forms part of the OSCE’s long-term support to Tajikistan in strengthening its border security and advancing the implementation of the country’s National Border Management Strategy.
