From 20 to 22 November 2025, the OSCE Programme Office organized a three-day training-of-trainers course in Khujand on the water–energy–agriculture nexus.

The course brought together 20 members of the Secretariat and Steering Committee of the Basin Women’s Forum of the Syrdarya River, including 19 women and one man. Bringing together participants from government institutions, international organizations, NGOs, academia, civil society, and water users’ associations, the training equipped them with the knowledge and skills needed to take on more active roles in decision-making.

The programme strengthened participants’ understanding of the water–energy–agriculture nexus and its importance for sustainable and climate-resilient resource management in Tajikistan and the wider Central Asian region. The sessions introduced adult learning methodologies and explored the interconnections between water, energy, and agriculture, as well as approaches to climate-resilient irrigation and the leadership roles women can play in water and energy governance.

Through group work, case studies, and practical facilitation exercises, participants enhanced their ability to design engaging training sessions, communicate effectively, and share Nexus principles within their communities.

By building a pool of capable trainers within the Forum, the initiative supports women’s meaningful participation in water governance and contributes to more inclusive, informed, and locally driven resource management. Aligned with the OSCE’s commitments to gender-responsive policy-making, the initiative also advances progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 5 on gender equality.
