OSCE supports leadership and human rights training for young persons with disabilities across Tajikistan

The OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe, in co-operation with the National Union of People with Disabilities in Tajikistan, organized four training courses for young persons with disabilities and young civil society representatives. The courses aimed to strengthen their leadership skills and understanding of human rights standards.

The training courses took place in Bokhtar from 8 to 10 April, Khujand from 23 to 25 May and Khorog from 13 to 15 July. The final course, held in Bokhtar from 28 to 30 August, brought together young persons with disabilities from the Rasht Valley.

The programme covered human rights principles, equality and non-discrimination, leadership and advocacy. It also focused on communication and engagement with government institutions.

Nargis Saidova, a representative of the Bokhtar branch of the National Union of People with Disabilities of Tajikistan, said: “These trainings give young people with disabilities an opportunity to learn about their rights, build confidence and advocate for themselves. They also encourage us to take a more active role in our communities and promote greater inclusion in society.”

The trainings provided a space for participants to exchange experiences and explore practical ways to address barriers faced by persons with disabilities. Through interactive discussions and exercises, they also developed practical approaches to taking on leadership roles in their communities.

A total of 88 participants, including 33 women and 55 men, took part in the four training courses.

The training series was part of the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe’s efforts to support the inclusion and empowerment of persons with disabilities. It also aimed to promote equal opportunities for their participation in social and public life.
