From 26 to 28 November 2025, the three-day Eco Hackathon Camp “Green Leaders” took place in Guliston, marking a significant step in promoting youth-led environmental innovation in Tajikistan. The event was organized by the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe together with the Committee for Environmental Protection (CEP), the "Ecoproactive" initiative, and the Research Institute of Sustainable Development and Green Economy at the International University of Tourism, Sport and Entrepreneurship.
The hackathon brought together 30 young leaders, with equal representation of women and men, who collaborated to develop practical IT-based solutions to some of Tajikistan’s most pressing environmental challenges.
During the intensive programme, participants took part in training sessions designed to bridge environmental knowledge with modern technological and leadership skills. The curriculum included Green Diplomacy and Environmental Legislation, highlighting the role of citizens in decision-making and international environmental co-operation. Sessions on Leadership and Public Communication focused on developing “green skills” and effective public speaking for environmental advocacy. Participants also explored the use of Artificial Intelligence and Vibe-code tools to create innovative IT prototypes addressing environmental issues.
Over the three days, participants worked in teams to identify ecological problems, develop project concepts, and create initial prototypes. The camp concluded with a Final Pitching Session, where teams presented their solutions to a jury composed of representatives from the CEP, the Research Institute of Sustainable Development and Green Economy, and an IT specialist from the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe.
The “Green Leaders” Eco Hackathon Camp highlighted the creativity and commitment of Tajikistan’s youth in driving sustainable solutions and demonstrated the importance of combining environmental knowledge with technology and leadership skills.
The event is part of the initiatives under the Action Plan of the State Complex Program for Development of Environmental Education and Awareness of the Population of the Republic of Tajikistan for 2021–2025, supported by the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe.
