Forty-one specialists from Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan completed a two-week training course on explosive ordnance disposal in Dushanbe on 24 April 2018. The course was organized by the OSCE Programme Office in Dushanbe as a part of its multi-year capacity-building effort.

The course was the first part of the fourth annual explosive ordinance disposal training cycle. Over the year the same participants will be returning to Dushanbe to attend more advanced courses in explosive ordnance disposal. Their graduation from the final course in the training cycle will take place on 5 September 2018.

The fourth annual explosive ordinance disposal training cycle was particularly significant as it introduced a mentorship approach. The best students from previous years were invited back as instructors and conducted the course with instructors from the OSCE and the United States Army Central (supported by the United States Embassy in Dushanbe).

The course was hosted by the Ministry of Defence of Tajikistan. It was accredited by the Tajikistan National Mine Action Centre and financially supported by the United States State Department’s Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement, Germany and Austria.
