OSCE trains lawyers of the OSCE-supported Women’s Resource Centres in Tajikistan on protecting victims of domestic violence and human trafficking

DUSHANBE, 7 October 2016 – An OSCE-organized two-day training course for lawyers from OSCE-supported Women’s Resource Centres (WRCs) concluded today in Dushanbe. The course brought together some 18 participants with the aim of strengthening their knowledge of legal instruments and procedures to protect survivors of human trafficking and domestic violence and in facilitating their access to justice.

Participants learned about identification of human trafficking survivors and the practical aspects of providing legal support to the victims while bringing to justice the perpetrators.

“The training course is a good opportunity for all practicing lawyers from the OSCE-supported network of WRCs to mutually share their experience on both types of victims. The knowledge obtained here is important in facilitating victims’ access to justice,” said Viorelia Rusu, Gender and Anti-Trafficking Officer at the OSCE Office in Tajikistan.

Since June 2016 the Women Resource Centres work on tackling both domestic violence and counteracting human trafficking.

Building capacity of civil society representatives on counteracting domestic violence and trafficking in persons is one of the areas of work of the OSCE Office in Tajikistan in implementing the OSCE’s wider 2004 Gender Action Plan for the Promotion of Gender Equality and the OSCE’s 2003 Action Plan to Combat Trafficking in Human Beings.
