OSCE trains Tajikistan border troops on patrol leadership

DUSHANBE, 4 September 2015 – Twenty officers from Tajik Border Troops successfully completed today a four-week training course on patrolling and leadership. It was organized by the OSCE Office’s patrol programming and leadership project in Gissar Training Centre.

Most of the graduates ranked between warrant officer and captain coming from border detachments at the Afghan-Tajik border. The course participants learned how to plan and conduct border patrolling with the use of topographical maps, satellite imagery and other tools, developed patrol planning and management techniques. They were also able to improve their skills in reporting and analysis, mountaineering and first-aid in the field.

Gorancho Stojkovski, Border Management Officer at the OSCE Office in Tajikistan, stated: "OSCE is continuing to improve the professionalism and skills of Tajik border guards under the Patrol Programming and Leadership Project by focusing on providing high quality trainings. They help increase efficiency of border services in the Central Asia region."

During the graduation ceremony, the Office in Tajikistan donated four vehicles and GPS navigation equipment as well as lap-top computers to the Main Directorate of Border Troops of the Tajik State Committee of National Security.

The ceremony was attended by the Senior Management of the Main Directorate of Border Troops of the State Committee of National Security of Tajikistan and the representatives of the US Embassy in Tajikistan.
